This lecture was conducted by Dessa, who is a musician and writer. Her music was mainly about her ex-boyfriend's love story, which turned into a curiosity about love. So she sent an e-mail to a neurologist to have a experiment. While checking her brain, she was able to see the reaction of love in the brain and noticed that the brain is like a map of the mind and that each part changes and responds to it.
I reminded Sherlock Homes, Episode 1 Season 2. Its highlight scene was about love. Sherlock said at that moment that love is a chemical reaction, with eyes open, heart pound, hormone, and other reactions. That scene was most impressive because he thought love is not just destiny or thinking but happens with scientific reason. This lecture was also impressed me because it was based on scientific reasons, and this helped me to made it reasonable with her research and thoughts.

Halloween was the first holiday that I experienced alone in the USA. Actually, it was not ALONE because I spend this holiday with my roommate. My roommate, roommate's friend, and I baked a cookie, went to the arcade pool that is in the 1st floor, and went In n out for dinner. Actually, it was similar like ordinary day except my roommate painted a joker appearance on her face and drive around. She had to drive and order foods and it was pretty fun to watch the reaction. I laughed a lot with roommate’s friend🤣
We just traded candies with one or two friends and didn't do anything in Korea, so I enjoyed that day a lot. Thanksgiving was the another holiday that people usually don’t care in Korea, but care a lot in USA. I don’t have any fun experience on Thanksgiving YET, and just saw some photos like turkey in the book. Thanksgiving day is coming over and over, so now I’m looking forward that holiday.

I got a fraud and had to deal with it by myself! It started in last week I think. I got a strange text that I tried to do transaction for more than 900$ and it was confirm message for YES and NO. I didn't plan to do any of the transaction in that time, so I typed No in there. After that, my account was locked suddenly. I didn't know what to do, so I contacted to the bank. However, I did not understand how to get a correct contact with the bank, so I just go to the bank by myself the next day. They made me a new account and guided how to unlock it. I was not sure that I understand all of their talk, but I waited to follow the instruction. (the instruction that I understand was waiting until they unlock my account shortly and change the password) But after three days, there was no news from there and this made me worried again. I said this situation to my mentor, then she called me separately and told me what to do more (calling together had a security problem) and I knew there was the thing that I didn't understand well. I cleared what I have to do completely and went to the bank. The result was successful! I've unlocked my new account and now waiting for the card.
I thought I have to be calm and need other person's advice or help when I get into trouble. Also, I thought I have to learn more English to speak and listen easily than today.

Gender discrimination happened in korea 100 years ago and continues until mom and dad's time.
There was always a program that teaches gender equality when I was in elementary and middle school. In there, teachers often said about what we mostly heard for introduction - words I've heard since childhood- that boys have to cry 3 times in whole life/ and girls have to act calmly and have a long hair. These means boys always have to be brave and strong, girls have to be quiet and pretty. There were also the fixed action that boys got a robot or dinosaurs toy and girls got a doll like barbie or pink stuff for their present.
Actually, before 100 years ago(we call Joseon Dynasty in Korea) was even worse than this. There was even the instruction that female have to follow her dad when she is young, follow her husband when she is married, follow her son when she gets old. Also, only male could study words properly and have a good career. It is sure that our time became much better than before, but I think some advertisements are still teaching gender identity. In my case, I feel intensely when I am watching on youtube. There are tons of beauty-make up film for female but not for male. (I'm not expecting them to do color-makeup but there are relatively small amount of having skin or foundation base makeup just for their self care.) It is hard to catch the reason clearly, but I think gender roles still remains in people's mind. I wish I can feel it became completely disappeared someday:D

I'm learning English more and more through this class and with text book, and I think 'The Cultural Patterning of Space' part is the most outstanding to me from now on. Even though I already knew the fact about the blank space, it seemed new to me when I read through this article. I think it's because it is mixed up with concept of 'space', saying with other examples and form of word that I didn't know. I learned the new fact that Roman and Greek have different sight in space, too.
I had a lot of thoughts in the difference perception about blank space and Indian families in the western house. I can notice again that people's tradition is very important and can't be changed easily to some people. Also, part of the personal space was a sympathetic story to me. I could recall the memory with my friends in Korea because the space of me and my friends was really close. This part stood out to me the most with these reasons, and I hope that I can find another Impressive parts through extra-learning in this class:)

I didn't caught into a big trouble until today because I don't like big risk that much; it is too tired to become anxious about it. It doesn't mean that I am a good student who listen to his/her parents very well(actually, I'm into the opposite side). I often get in trouble quietly like making something broken or damaged (eventhough parents warned me to be careful 5 minutes ago), coming home late, or forgot buying something what my parents said. (These are 'small' trouble to me..)
I planed to do something that I can get into trouble if I caught only once. Me and my highschool friends planned to drink when one friend's family go on a trip. Our plan ended SUCCESSFULLY. It was really fun and we didn't made any trouble at that time. I think I had told my parents after I came to USA. They didn't say any words with this because it was TOO late and I didn't get any accident at that time:D

I like proverbs, because we can notice a meaning even though we don't say it clearly and that part is really interesting. I think there are some similar things that I know in my country's version but there are also things that I can't understand clearly. In this proverbs, I can understand 'Stars are not seen bt sunshine' and 'The night is dark, but the apples are counted' when I just got focused on fact, but can't get a lesson in it. I think I can guess others slightly.
'Knowledge is like a garden: if it is not cultivated, it cannot be harvested' and 'Skillful sailors aren't made by smooth seas' can be tied up together because both means 'practice makes perfect'. I think both represent the lesson that we have to work hard if we want to success. I experienced this in the high school and still today. We spend time to get good score on the test, to do well in the game or exercise, or to develop other skills and we actually do well when the time we spent increases. I think this relationship will continue forever.. So I keep these in my mind all the time.:)

Hello! My name is Suhyun Lee from Korea. I came to the U.S. to study in OCC and have a lot of experience. My hobbies are reading, listening to music; especially pop song, and drawing:) My major that planning to go is architecture, but still finding the major because I'm not sure that I am sincerely interested and able to study deeply. Still finding my dream!!
My interest in today is spicy food because I ate a lot in Korea but I didn't have a lot of chance since I came to America. I miss Tteokbokki which is made of spicy sauce and rice cake SOOOOOO much.. I made it on weekend but it was not enough, so I'm gonna try again next week:( I like spicy ramen and snack, too. If you know some delicious spicy food, recommend me!! Let's eat or make it together when there is free time;D
